Russia continued their goal scoring form with an impressive 3-1 win over Egypt. The Russians came out an dominated the early goings of the first half. They were creating multiple half chances, and Egypt had no response. The Egyptians were giving it away in midfield constantly and had no response to the pressure Russia were putting them under. Russia had good attempts through Golovin and Ignasevich but ultimately couldn't find the back of the net in the opening stages. Egypt on the other hand despite their poor play probably created the best chance of the opening 25 minutes when a curler from Trezeguet just went past the far post and wide. By the end of the second half, Russia started to slow down, and Egypt started growing into the match. This lead us into the half after a pretty uneventful 45 minutes. Unfortunately for Egypt all the work they did to grow back into the match was put to bed just 2 minutes into the second half. When a hopeful cross was flung in and deflected off the knee of Egypt captain Fahti and rolled into the back of the net. Egypt though didn't seem too shook by the goal and fought back and took control of the match again. But then just as it looked like a goal may be coming for the Egyptians, Russia doubled their advantage. It was a beautiful run by Brazilian born right-back Mario Fernades who squared it right to Denis Cheryshev who finished it for his third goal of the tournament. It was a brilliantly worked goal that left El-Shenawy no chance. Russia then put the nail in the coffin just 3 minutes later. A long ball was played forward towards target man Artem Dyzuba. Dyzuba controlled it beautifully with his chest and beat a defender and slotted it home with composure. It was a well-taken goal that showed off everything the striker could do. From this moment on the fate of the match looked sealed, but that didn't stop Egypt from trying to get back into it. They were able to get their first goal of the tournament when Mo Salah drew a penalty after he was dragged down in the box by midfielder Roman Zobnin. Salah made no mistake from the spot and banged it into the right-hand corner. Unfortunately, it was only a consolation for Egypt, and their chances of making it out of the group seem extremely grim, to say the least. For Russia, it would take a miracle for them to not make it out of the groups going into their final group stage match against Uruguay.
