Group E Review:
Group E:
Final Table:
Brazil 7 pts
Switzerland 5 pts
Serbia 3 pts
Costa Rica 1 pt
Matchday 3 results: Brazil 2-0 Serbia, Switzerland 2-2 Costa Rica
Switzerland were able to hold off a feisty Serbia in matchday three to qualify with Brazil to the knockout stage.
Biggest Surprise: Switzerland going undefeated
Though Switzerland came into the tournament ranked 6th according to the Fifa World Rankings but were supposed to be in a tough battle for second. But the Swiss comfortably came 2nd with a very good performance. In every match, they played well and impressed people and really justified their high ranking.
Biggest Dissapointment: Costa Rica's perfromance
After a quarter final finish back in 2014 many people had high expectations for Costa Rica coming into Russia. Unfortunately, their performance was absolutely nothing similar to their performance back in Brazil. Though they fought well and didn't play horribly, they were outclassed overall in every match which was a complete contrast from the past.
Best Player: Phil Coutinho

Many questioned the fee for Coutinho when he left Liverpool to join Barcelona in January. But he showed the world throughout this group that he can live up to that price tag. He absolutely carried Brazil scoring 2 goals and grabbing a fantastic assist against Serbia. He was the key that unlocked every team in the group and was by far the best player in the group.
Best Match: Switzerland vs. Serbia 2-1
In a politically charged battle, Switzerland won a key match to secure 2nd place winning 2-1 against Serbia. The match was very back and forth with both teams looking to go forward. Serbia opened the scoring in the first half through a header from Newcastle striker Aleksandr Mitrovic. But in the second half, Switzerland scored two emotional goals to take it and was by far the most entertaining match of group e.
Best Goal: Coutinho 1-0 Switzerland
Coutinho's vintage goal against Switzerland just edged out Xhaka's laser strike to take best goal of group e. He cut inside brilliantly off the left hand side of the box. He was able to beat his defender and took the curler on with his right foot. The ball traveled perfectly into the top corner to give Brazil the lead against the Swiss.
