Group F Review:

Group F:

Final Table:
Sweden 6 pts
Mexico 6 pts
South Korea 3 pts
Germany 3 pts

Matchday 3 results: South Korea 2-0 Germany, Sweden 3-0 Mexico

In an absolutely wild group, the defending world champions have been knocked out, and Sweden and Mexico have progressed.

Biggest Surprise: Sweden finishing first

The Swedes who everyone thought would be an anomaly in this group finished first ahead of Mexico to the surprise of many. They played with excellent discipline in defense and were very clinical going forward. They started off with a comfortable win against South Korea. They then moved on and got their hearts broken against Germany but bounced back as if nothing hit them smashing Mexico off the park 3-0. It was a fantastic overall performance from the Swedes that was pleasant surprise sending them through in first place.

Biggest Disappointment: Germany

Germany were horrible in all honesty at this year's World Cup. The defending champs were eliminated in last place in a group that shouldn't have had any trouble progressing in first place. They underperformed in every single match and looked nothing like the team that won back in 2014. It's probably back to the drawing board just as it was after 2006 when they were eliminated in the semis in front of their own supporters.

Best Player: Hirving Lozano

Really Lozano was fantastic in one match, but it was so good a performance that he has to take the best player in the group. He was unstoppable and was basically unplayable in Mexico's 1-0 win against the Germans. He was devastating on the counter-attack and had Kimmich rethinking how to play the right back position. He took his goal brilliantly as he cut inside and slotted it home past Neuer at the near post. He scored the winner against Germany and helped Mexico produce one of their most famous wins in recent history.

Best Match: Germany vs. Sweden 2-1

Germany vs. Sweden had absolutely everything you want in a World Cup match. It had the drama, the talent, and the late goal of course. Germany headed into half time of the match knowing they were out of the World Cup. But ended the 90' minutes with new hope after Toni Kroos scored an absolute cracker of a goal in the 95' minute. It was an emotional rollercoaster of a match and was by far the best match of the group and maybe the tournament.

Best Goal: Kroos vs Sweden 2-1

The winner to beat Sweden by Toni Kroos was absolutely sublime. The funny part about the goal was that he was probably the worst player on the pitch until he scored that goal then all was forgotten. The free kick was played and Reus passed it off to him. He smashed a curler towards the far post and left the keeper no chance as it was to fast and had too much movement to save. It sent the Germans into absolute jubilation and gave the Germans newborn hope of the knockout stage. Unfortunately, we know how that turned out.
