Group G Review:

Group G:

Final Table:
Belgium 9pts
England 6 pts
Tunisia 3 pts
Panama 0 pts

Matchday 3 results: Belgium 1-0 England, Tunisia 2-1 Panama

In a relatively predictable group, Belgium and England advanced comfortably over two of the more poor sides in the World Cup.

Biggest Surprise: England's dominance

In the past England have been known as chokers and mentally weak. But in this group, they came out and dominated competition that they were expected to beat. They performed at a really high level and made their fans believe again. They played free-flowing football and scored a lot of goals. They made it look like Panama didn't belong on the same pitch as them when they put 5 past them in a dominant first half. Plus they showed mental fortitude to score a late goal against Tunisia when they could have laid down after Tunisia equalized. It was an impressive performance and let's see if they can keep it going in the knockouts and maybe let football come home.

Biggest Dissapointment: The abysmal performances of Tunisia and Panama

In every World Cup group, you hope for an underdog to maybe make some noise or at least give you some competitive football against the "better sides" of their group. But Panama and Tunisia provided absolutely no competition to the big dogs of the group. England and Belgium combined to score 16 goals against the nations and truly embarrassed them. Although Tunisia and Panama both aren't exactly the best sides in this World Cup, it was still disappointing that we didn't see them be more competitive.

Best Player: Romelu Lukaku

Big forward Romelu Lukaku absolutely dominated this group. Scoring four in two matches he looked like he was in prime form. He was making every perfect run and his first touch for once looked great. His finishing though was the highlight. His two delightful chips show the composure he has and has worked on and if he continues at this level the rest of the competition should be scared.

Best Match: England vs. Tunisia 2-1

In the only somewhat entertaining match of this group England's late Kane goal gave them three points to open up the group. In all honesty, the scoreline was tight, but the match on the

pitch wasn't. England dominated almost every stretch of that match. They looked extremely dangerous from set pieces, and their possession and buildup looked very polished for a first match at the World Cup. They scored late on after a penalty was put into the back of the net by the Tunisians. Kane secured his brace and provided us with at least one dramatic moment from this group.

Best Goal: Mertens 1-0 vs. Panama

Mertens' goal against Panama opened up the scoring just two minutes into the second half. It was a goal that got rid of all nerves for the Belgium supporters and lead the Belgians to go on to win 3-0. It was an absolutely beautiful volley after a failed headed clearance fell to him right inside the both. Mertens smacked it with his right boot, and the ball sailed over the keeper and into the left corner. It was a perfect goal to open up the match and show the quality Belgium have.
